It
has just been a little over a year since
Timmy Nguyen opened his Miss
Saigon Vietnamese restaurant on
Grand Avenue in Oakland. This family operated
little gem intimately seats 36 with a touch
of outside dining.
Nguyen's family was sponsored from Vietnam
when he was 14 years old. A generous
Louisiana lady sponsored many families at the
time and Nguyen's gratitude runs deep to this
day. His family moved to Georgia for a spell
before eventually ending up in California.
Miss Saigon offers an extremely extensive
menu that features appetizers; noodle soups;
vermicelli and rice dishes; seafood, beef,
chicken and pork dishes; chow fun, chow mein
and items prepared in clay pots
For example, the Fresh Spring Rolls are
refreshing and light. The mixture of steamed
pork, shrimp, bean sprouts & vermicelli
is enhanced with the use of mint leaves when
wrapped in rice paper and served with peanut
sauce.
Clay pot dishes include beef, shrimp, tofu,
fresh snapper and vegetarian. Flavorful and
nicely portioned the dishes run from $6.75 to
$8.50.
With over 240 items available, appetites are
easily satisfied. A terrific special lunch
menu starts at $4.50 and the regular menu
ranges from $3.50 to $15.95 with an overall
average between $4 and $7 for individual
dishes.
Take out and catering is offered as well as
free delivery with a $11.50 minimum order.
Miss Saigon is located at 3345 Grand Avenue
just down and across from the Grand Lake
Theatre. Stop by and talk to Nguyen yourself
as his customers are treated like family.
